Physical Distancing

Standard

I want it to be called physical distancing, not social distancing.

She drove by me yesterday, sitting in a child’s seat on a bike,

leaned against a grown-up’s back, her hair blowing in the wind.

She was turned with her face to the sidewalk, letting the world rush past her,

seeming not very impressed.

She stuck her tongue out in a relaxed way and followed me with her eyes,

all the way until we didn’t see each other anymore.

I wanted to stick my tongue out as well.

I wanted to jump on the tram just some minutes before I saw her,

was ready, my mask from maskenprotest covering half of my face,

holding tight to my Karin-tine-buddy on the one side and the branches I brought from the forest on the other side.

But I didn’t make it to the tram in time.

So I kept wearing it on the sidewalk. No hand free for letting go of the mask.

So no, I didn’t lick my mask from the inside to stick my tongue out.

Can people see a smile even though my nose and mouth are covered? I hope so.

I want it to be called physical distancing, not social distancing.

And I found out just now: the WHO already changed to the term physical distancing in March because they “want people to still remain connected”.

Thank you.
